**RACE RESULTS**
CMRA ROUND 6 Friday practice went well until the last session of the day. Race one was the Formula 4 race which he had to ride on the Ninja. He started from the fifth row because of the DNF at TWS. After the green flag going into turn one it looked like he was fifth or sixth when he went out of sight. Coming back into after turn three sight he was in the lead after passing everyone on the brakes. Hunter Morgan passed him in the back section and they checked out on the rest of the group with

JULY 8-10 HALLETT MOTOR RACING CIRCUIT
Friday morning practice would be Austin's first time on the new suspension. He started on the DOT rear and came up to speed quickly. After a few sessions and a little tuning from Jim Cambora with Raceworx Austin was running 24's. We switched to the slick rear and he dropped into the 22's but the tire was beginning to cup. We dropped the pressure per Jimmy C and the problem fixed itself. Saturday Austin raced in the 3 hour mini endurance with RG&D Racing on the Ninja and finished 2nd overall. Austin split the riding with team mate Allen Phillips. Sunday morning practice Austin took his time and on third session was looking good in the 23's. I noticed that DJ disappeared early in the practice and saw the ambulance roll so figured it was him. We scrambled to get DJ's bike ready but he was in pain. Race 1 was the Formula 2 race and Austin was about 5th off start but in 3 turns made it to the lead with DJ unable to contest. Austin finished 1st with a 4 second lead. Next race was D Superstock and Austin got to the front again on the 2nd lap and lead until late in the race when Daniel passed in the bus stop on the brakes and lead Austin until last turn. Austin passed him back under breaking but ran wide on the exit allowing Daniel to get back underneath him and take the win. Next race was D Superbike with Austin getting the lead in lap 2 and gapping Daniel enough to finish 1st. Last race of the day was the Lightweight Twins race and was a fierce battle to the end! Daniel and Austin switched leads two and three times a lap. Wheel to wheel racing at its best! On the last lap Daniel made a great pass in the bus stop getting the inside line but Austin wouldn't budge so they went in side by side and Austin passed him back on the inside going up the hill and managed to ride a defensive line and take the checker. Great weekend with 3 wins and a 2nd. Later found out that DJ had a broken ankle but still managed to grid up for three races. Tough guy! Austin would like to thank his sponsors and Jim Cambora for the great suspension tuning. Official results are posted here: http://www.cmraracing.com/Results/2011/event37/sprint/0sprintclass.html
CMRA ROUND 5
2011
JUNE 10-12 MOTOR SPORT RANCH CRESSON TEXAS
Friday morning practice Austin started out on a DOT rear and began coming up to speed. By lunch he was running 26's and was looking comfortable. I changed him over to a slick rear because that is what he would be riding in his first race and was expecting a drastic drop in lap times but he only got down to a 25 and the tire was shredding and beginning to cup. After consulting with John Hutchison about tires and Jimmy Cambora about suspension we decided that at his speed and aggressive riding style the current setup was no longer working and was getting dangerous. I told Austin to get through the weekend and we would go through it and correct it. In race 1 Austin got a decent start and was about 6th off the line. He quickly passed into third by the entrance to the rattlesnake. Dj Ricks checked out and so it was Austin an Daniel Adams left to battle for 2nd. Austin was struggling with grip on the shredded slick. After race John came and looked at tire and we adjusted some pressures for the next race on the DOT's. In the next race Austin got a good start and was running 3rd when he lost the front in the switchback in the rattlesnake. Shawn Adams went down in exactly the same spot right behind him almost hitting Austin. officials said that Austin supposedly hit curbing with his footpeg but no one knows for sure. Austin really liked the feel of the DOT so we decided to use it for remainder of day. In the Lightweight twins race DJ again took off leaving Austin and Daniel to battle for 2nd and battle they did! They swapped positions two and three times a lap giving the fans a great race with Austin finishing barely in front of Daniel. The next race was a replay of the last with Austin making a pass on the brakes on the last lap and then a sprint to the checker. After reviewing lap times Austin ran a 21 in the last race which was 4 seconds faster than his practice time. A great weekend even with the crash. CMRA ROUND 4
2011
May 20-22 HALLETT MOTOR RACING CIRCUIT
Friday morning practice the weather was horrible and track conditions were bad at best. Austin went out on rains during the second session to practice for wet conditions. The sun came out after lunch and a dry line appeared quickly forcing me to change to DOT's in the middle of practice to avoid burning up a new set of rains. Austin looked good but was not really able to get up to speed fully. On Saturday Austin's endurance team RG&D finsihed 2nd in Formula 4 endurance with Dustin and Alan riding the two hours and Austin setting out. Sunday morning saw great weather and track conditions so he was able to get up to speed quickly in morning practice. His first race was Formula 2 and he started on the 3rd row but made a pass into 2nd by turn 3. DJ and Austin checked out on the rest of the group with DJ leading but Austin right on him the entire race. At the finish DJ beat Austin at the line by only .17sec. The next race was Superstock D and it was pretty much a replay of the first but Austin was on DOT's and struggled a little with grip. His third race was Superbike D and Austin was on slicks again. He ended up 2nd in this race but he struggled getting to the front before allowing DJ to gap the field and he was getting a little pressure from Bill Erzal later in the race but held on for 2nd. Austin's final race of the day was Lightweight Twins. He moved into 2nd in turn 3 after going in late on the brakes but seemed to be struggling and was passed by Daniel Adams later in the race. He finished 3rd and told me he was having problems with the rear sliding on him almost high siding in several places forcing him to ease off. Track temperatures were higher than earlier in the day and suspension problems may have contributed as well. He had a great weekend at a track which historically has been brutal for us. CMRA ROUND 3
2011
APRIL 30-May 1 EAGLES CANYON RACEWAY
Friday practice went well with Austin running very fast times and getting used to the track on a bigger bike. He crashed late in the day on a patch of water but damage was minimal. Saturday was the Shogun Motorsports 8 hour mini endurance race. Austin raced on the Steve Gaspard sponsored RG&D team of Aaron Gore, Alan Phillips, Dustin Dominguez, and Clayton Schutz. After several bike problems and a crash the team ended up 5th. Sunday morning came with horrible weather. Racing was delayed until after lunch because of lightning. In the Formula 2 race Austin started back in the grid and ran a good race and fought up to third in pouring rain. He looked very good and was patient and just stayed up. His next race was the Superstock D race where he was third after the start behind DJ Ricks and Daniel Adams. On the 2nd lap DJ crashed and then on the 3rd lap Adams crashed putting Austin in the lead. He finished the race up front. Next up was the Lightweight twins race in the pouring rain again. Austin was once again 3rd off the start and was sitting comfortable behind Adams and Ricks when DJ went down again on lap 3 putting Austin in 2nd where he would finish. Last race of a long miserable day was Superbike D and was a replay of all the other races except Ricks and Adams stayed up and Austin finished 3rd. Great results for such horrible conditions. Austin is maturing and making smarter on track decisions and learned to ride the SV in the rain today. CMRA ROUND 2
2011
APRIL 1-3 TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY
After the incident at Houston we were all a little nervous and Austin seemed to be a little cautious for awhile before coming up to speed. Practice went well with Austin getting down into the 57’s by the end of the day. He knew that last years champs had run 50’s so he knew he had his work cut out on a stock bike. He had the day off Saturday as his sponsor for his mini-sprint bike didn’t make it to the track. Sunday morning practice he knocked a second off his times. Race one was the F2 race and he was very nervous and so was his mother and I. He got a good start and went around about six people in turn one and was running a comfortable fourth when a backmarker crashed on the 5th lap in turn 12. Austin was coming around for the checker when he saw a corner worker in the track motioning him down low but he was pointing to pit road. Austin though it had been red flagged and pulled into pit road and realized he made a mistake so he sprinted to the transponder loop but only got seventh. Race two for him was Superstock D where he ran a good race and got a third behind DJ Ricks and Eric Fault. Race three was a barn burner with DJ out with a mechanical before the start and Austin and Chris Romeo trading leads two and three times a lap. Austin tried to make a move on the last lap and got pushed out by a backmarker and ran off the track and ended up on Nascar 4 but was able to still finish second. Race four was a repeat of three but DJ checked out leaving Chris and Austin to battle. On the next to last lap Austin was leading Chris into the chicane went Chris grabbed a big handful of throttle trying to get a good drive out and had a nasty highside leaving Austin to coast for a lap for second. Great weekend. Thanks to Austin’s sponsors for making it happen! Official results are posted here http://www.cmraracing.com/Results/2011/event33/sprint/0sprintclass.html
CMRA ROUND 1
2011
FEBRUARY 18-20 MERCEDES BENZ OF HOUSTON
Austin looked comfortable on the bike for the trackday on Friday and was running very quick times for his first time on the bike. He was going in deep on the brakes and adapted to the horsepower well and was spinning the rear coming out of turn one pretty hard but was handling it well. Saturday morning practice he was extremely quick and was pushing last years leader hard. Sunday morning we discussed strategy and I told him to wait until turn one to try and move to the front and pick off people one at a time because he was gridded in the back. After the green flag Austin went into turn one and passed about eight people in the first apex and was moving up the outside when he got tied up with another rider and went down hard. He was knocked unconscious for a few minutes and when he woke up he didn’t have a clue where he was so Bobbie rushed him to Texas Childrens for an over night stay for a concussion. He hopefully learned a valuable lesson but loss a lot of points.
CMRA FINAL ROUND
OCTOBER 30-31 TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY
Going into this weekend there was only a few points seperating Austin and Hunter Morgan for the Formula 4 Championship so it would come down to whoever won the race. Austin had a good day of practice on Friday on bothe bikes and his times were a little off but so were the other riders because of the weather. Saturday morning practice his times improved and he looked very well. Austin and I discussed strategy before the race and he knew that Connor Blevins was going to run out front and he needed to not get into a battle with him and concentrate on Hunter as Connor was not in the points. After the start it was Austin and Hunter flat out into turn two with Connor slicing through the field quickly. After lap one Austin and Hunter were already swapping leads and drafting each other on the front straight. Connor took over the lead in turn 4 with Austin and Hunter right on him. Austin drafted Hunter right at the finish line on laps 3 and 4 and I really thought that he would set back and wait until the last lap and draft him for the finish but instead he passed Connor for the lead on lap five and then Connor passed him right back in four where he was a little later on the brakes. They managed to gap Hunter a little bit in the process and on the last lap it was Connor and Austin followed very closely by Hunter who just couldn't manage to get close enough to draft. The win was enough to secure Austin's 2nd CMRA Formula 4 Championship Title. In the Superstock E race Austin was in 2nd place comfortably and couldn't catch Ryan Johnson so he just went out to have fun. On the start Austin was in the lead but the field was right on top of him. Crossing the finish line on every lap there were 4 and 5 bikes that you could cover by a quarter of a second. The finsih was so close that we couldn't tell visually at the line if it was Austin or Alan Phillips. The official results had Alan by a tenth of a second. A very exciting race all together. In the two hour mini endurance Austin and team mate Joey Howells finished 4th which put them in 2nd overall for the season. A great season considering the crashes and mechanical issues throughout. Official results are posted here: http://www.cmraracing.com/results.htm
CMRA ROUND 5
JULY 8-10 HALLETT MOTOR RACING CIRCUIT
Hallett was a tough weekend for Austin as usual. This track always eats motorcycles! Practice was good with good lap times and no crashes. In the Formula 4 race Austin crashed on lap 2 and broke his break lever so he was out. This puts him back in the points so he’ll really have to put his head down. In the Formula 5 race he finished 4th after having some shifting issues from switching back and forth from standard to GP. In the Superstock E race he finished 8th after running off the track several times. In the three hour mini endurance his team Redline Roadracing finished 3rd overall with Austin and team mate Joey Howells splitting the riding duties. Tough weekend for the sprints but the 3rd in the endurance helped to raise the spirits! Results are posted here: http://www.cmraracing.com/results.htm
CMRA ROUND 4
MAY 1-2 EAGLES CANYON RACEWAY
The trackday on Friday was busy as Austin needed to ride all four bikes including the RentMyNinja.com endurance bike they would be racing in the twelve hour endurance race on Saturday. All of the bikes ran well but we were testing a new Sunoco race fuel on the RS150R and the Ninja. We had the Ninja jetted where we thought it needed to be but Austin was complaining it was sluggish coming out of the turns rolling on the throttle. The twelve hour endurance started at eight am and was to run until eight pm. Austin was racing on the Redline Roadracing team that I own with Brandon Altmeyer, Joey Howells, and Ryan Max Johnson. They rode a very consistent race and did not have any bike problems or crashes. At the end they finished third overall in Formula Four endurance. Austin was more excited about passing me twice in the race than finishing third. It's OK though my team Rheen Racing owned by Steve Gaspard ended up winning the overall! In the sprints on Sunday Austin started the Formula Four race from the front row and was first to come across the line after the first lap. Hunter passed him between turn three and four and was moving pretty good when he tucked the front in the downhill left hander and went down hard. Austin was back in the lead with Jeff Mendelson hot on his back tire. On the last lap Jeff pulled out of Austin's draft in the last turn and attempted to late brake Austin but ended up going in to hot and hitting the curbing. Austin coasted to victory. Hunter escaped injury but the bike wasn't quiet so lucky. Austin jumped on the Aprilia for the Formula Five race but the bike stalled at the end of pit road with carb problems and he never made it to the grid. He then climbed aboard his Ninja and starting from the pole he was first across the line after lap one. Ryan passed Austin on the second lap and was riding very well and managed to check out on the rest of the group. Austin managed to hold off Brandon and Jeff Hughes until the last lap but Austin didn't get a very good drive out of the last turn and Brandon beat him to the line with Austin finishing third. The weekend was a fun and successful event. I would like to thank Shogun Motorsports for sponsoring the endurance race and the CMRA for a great event. Results are posted here: http://www.cmraracing.com/results.html
CMRA ROUND 3
APRIL 9-11 TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY
Practice went off without any problems on Friday and Austin looked good and ran decent lap times. Saturday morning Austin was a little nervous because he had a good crowd of spectators with a lot of family and some sponsors there watching. Formula Four was the first race and Austin was starting on the third row. After the start Austin was in the lead after turn one and lead until the front straight where Hunter drafted him and passed him. They switched the lead on the front straight several times during the race drafting and passing each other. On lap five Austin pushed the front tire into turn four and barely missed highsiding the RS150 but managed to keep it on the track while tearing off the windscreen in the process. I assumed he would lay back and settle for second after that but on the next lap he passed Hunter up the inside of Four and Hunter stuffed him right back in five and then they sprinted to the checker with Hunter narrowly beating him at the line. Austin climbed onto the Aprilia for the Formula Five race and was second after the start where he remained the entire race until the last lap where he drafted by Marcus Beedle at the finish for the victory. Austin then got on the Ninja without a break and starting from the pole he was first into turn one and began stretching out a gap. He remained in the lead for the entire race and the last two laps he began to slow down a little because he was tired and had a good lead. Brandon Altmeyer was making a hard charge towards the front but Austin held him off for the checkered flag. Lap times and results are posted here: http://www.cmraracing.com/results.html
CMRA ROUND 2
MARCH 12-14 EAGLES CANYON RACEWAY
Race four was the E Superstock race on the Ninja’s with 9 riders on the grid.
CMRA ROUND 1
FEBRUARY 19-21 TEXAS WORLD SPEEDWAY
Austin looked very well in practice Friday and we were pleased with his times. Race one on Saturday was Formula 4 on the RS150 and he got a good start. After two laps Austin and Jeff Mendelson had a large gap on the rest of the field and were swapping the lead back and forth and drafting each other down the front straight. I heard the engine sputter on lap four on the straight and Austin went out in turn 9 with a mechanical. He'll really have to put his head down to catch up.
Race two was on the Aprilia built by Rheen Racing's Steve Gaspard. Austin got an excellent start again and led for a lap before being passed on the front straight. This was the first race for the custom bike so the gearing was a toss up which we lost. He ended up third but we expect to do much better next race now that we have a baseline for gearing.
Race three was the E Superstock race on the Ninja 250 . This would be the first sprint for him on the Ninja. He got another decent start and was about forth in turn one. Coming down the front straight it was a very close race for about six bikes. Austin, Joey Howells, Jeff Hughes, and Brandon Altmeyer drafted each other down the front straight the entire race while the leader Ryan Johnson curiously checked out on the rest of the field. I noticed Austin having shifting problems which later turned out to be a problem with the shift lever. At the end of five laps Austin finished a close third.
After the sprints Austin and Joey would ride the Ninja for the Redline Roadracing team owned by Aaron and Bobbie Gore. After two hours of racing and one pit stop for fuel and a rider change the boys finished 7th in Formula 4 endurance. Lots of racing left in the endurance series where consistency is key to winning championships! Overall a good weekend.
